Who knew?!!

A few years back, I was sitting at the service station, and the gentleman sitting next to me, started telling me about this pack of coyotes that was hanging around near his home. He was bringing his pets in and keeping a close eye on things. He also listened intently, as they howled night after night. It was a great tale, but they had become a bit of a problem to him. His home was a little rural, but still well within the city limits of Charlotte.

So, imagine my surprize this past Sunday, when the local paper did a story on an outbreak of coyotes within center city!

This includes sightings on front porches-right in Myers Park-where the who's who of Charlotte live.

The sightings have also taken place in the Southpark neighborhood of Mountainbrook (another prestigious address). 

Residents here have had a rash of missing cats.

           BEWARE of the COYOTES! 

Strangely enough,  the coyotes are very comfortable amongst humans-but-humans are not very comfortable amongst coyotes...especially when the coyotes are eating their pets for as afternoon snacks.

My favorite visual from the story is this: 

It was regarding one woman, whilst defending her dog, she marched  out and beat a coyote down with her field hockey stick, and now wanders about her yard, diligently, with one of her golf clubs...

Now, that IS more like Charlotte. Never go anywhere without your clubs! Let's keep things in perspective!

As uptown Charlotte moves along, we had Coyote Ugly (the bar...now closed) and we have Howling at the Moon (yes, Dale Earnhardt JR's club) and now, lo and behold, we have real live coyotes wandering amongst us in center city!

So, pack up the babies and grab the old ladies, and...oh, I digress...wrong song... "So, beware of rabies, and grab up your babies, your golf club, and get ready to take a swing at nature. Because, in Charlotte, it is all around you.
